60 Minutes

My least favorite part of the day is that stressful time when people in my home are tired and cranky and hungry and the house is sometimes a wreck and all in all we’re not doing so hot.
This time is of day generally lasts about an hour, and around here it’s from around 5 to 6 p.m. I know because I am acutely aware of its imminence and always glad when it’s gone.

I remember a conversation I had with friends a few years ago about the state of our interior—our car interiors. One woman commented that she was in a season where keeping her house clean seemed out-of-the-question, so she turned all her attention to her car. This morning I was supposed to get work done. This was why my supportive and encouraging husband offered to bring our daughter to the library for her volunteer hours. This was why he was designated bank-go-er.

A newly pregnant and overwhelmed young mom of four emailed me the other day to ask, “Did you always know you wanted a large family?”
