John Paul II to Be Beatified

Well, this just puts a smile on my face this morning (from Edward Pentin):

“Pope Benedict XVI has today promulgated a decree recognising a miracle took place at the intercession of the Ven. John Paul II. The beatification ceremony will take place May 1st in Rome, presided by Benedict XVI.

The date, the Second Sunday of Easter, coincides with Divine Mercy Sunday - a Feast Day instituted by John Paul II. The late Pope died on the solemnity, on April 2, 2005.

The announcement of the beatification comes after five years of investigations into the life and works of the Polish Pontiff.”

Sweet Heartbeat

this never gets old

I had my OB appointment this morning and heard the baby’s heartbeat! What a miracle life is!

I’m still at the stage where I have nothing to show for the pregnancy but the waves of green I get to ride each day. There’s that moment, early in the pregnancy, when you hold your breath and say a prayer as the nurse adjusts the doppler (and adjusts again)—that eternal split second before she finds the beautiful sound.

What a delight when you hear that little whoosh, proof of the tiny little being that is there, waiting, depending on you for everything.

'Be Opened'

from today's Gospel

And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech; and they besought him to lay his hand upon him. And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Eph’phatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly.
—Mark 7:32-35

Open ours ears too Lord. Help us hear Your voice.

Guadalupe Scientific 'Mystery' or Miracle?

Our Lady confounds science

Thanks to Michelle for pointing out Mary’s appearance in the news last week:

Dr. Aldofo Orozco, a physicist and researcher, announced at the International Marian Congress on Our Lady of Guadalupe that there is “no scientific explanation for the 478 years of high quality-preservation of the Tilma or for the miracles that have occurred to ensure its preservation”:

“All the cloths similar to the Tilma... READ MORE

Jesus Feeds Us

from today's Gospel

Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, that nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves, left by those who had eaten.
—John 6:11-13

Thank you Lord for Your abundant generosity. Feed us and give us grace to imitate You always.

Overcome With Amazement

from today's Gospel

And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a tumult and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Tal’itha cu’mi”; which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And immediately the girl got up and walked ... and they were immediately overcome with amazement.
—Mark 5:39-42

Jesus, heal us too. Wake our sleeping hearts and prepare us to do Your work while we are alive.

Delivery, Then and Now

Many things change, but some will always remain the same.

I loved reading the recent news about a 92-year-old great grandma who helped to deliver her great-great-grand daughter, Reis McFarland. It was the first time the mother of five and grandmother of many had ever attended a birth.

Though I’ve never been one to invite the crowds into the delivery room when I have a baby, something about the idea of five generations being present to welcome this tiny baby... READ MORE

First Glimpse

A new little one is always a miracle

On Tuesday I had an ultrasound to pin down the age of our tiny unborn baby.  There was some mystery surrounding which month he or she was conceived, so the ultrasound was necessary to determine whether I’m due in February or March.

Because of some complications in the first trimester of my pregnancy with Camilla, I had a series of ultrasounds during that time to make sure that she was still alive. ... READ MORE
