Little Ones Who Live

Did you know that when Roe v. Wade was issued, it said that a woman has a right to an abortion only until the baby is viable outside the womb? The Supreme Court later rejected this, but I find that in discussions about abortion, few people are willing to defend the practice of aborting after the viability point.
But it’s interesting: the Roe v. Wade decision says that viability “is usually placed... READ MORE
Seeking a Miracle

I teared up reading this one, and resolved to pray as well.
Two-year-old Joseph Whalin, the youngest of seven in a Catholic family, has recently been diagnosed with advanced cancer. From his bed, the toddler has had visions of angels and a visions of what his family believes to be Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.
So they are praying for her intercession for a miracle for their little boy.
Read the whole story here, and join in the prayers if you find yourself so moved.
NOT a Vegetable

Have you seen this story yet?
A three-year-old boy in New York is missing his cerebellum - a vital part of his brain - and yet continues to learn and develop, defying medical expectations.
According to the article, little Chase Britton’s case is “leaving doctors bewildered and experts rethinking what they thought they knew about the human brain.”
To me, the most inspiring part of the story are the words of his mother, who says of her son, “People could view this as a tragic story. But that depends on how you look at life. You can be angry or you can appreciate what you have been given. Chase was meant to be with us.”

A Vote for Henry Poole

After reading Tom Hoopes’s recent review of Henry Poole Is Here, I had low expectations for this newly released DVD.
But I watched it last weekend anyway. And I was pleasantly surprised.
It’s hard for Hollywood to get a movie about faith “right,” and Henry Poole Is Here doesn’t handle the topic perfectly. But it did a pretty good job of inspiring me and told a decent story with realistic, likable... READ MORE
Big Prayers, Big Results

This year, for the first time ever, my husband and I are saying the Novena for Impossible Requests.
I’d never heard of this novena before, but happened to catch a link Danielle posted on her Twitter page last Wednesday. It was the beginning day of the nine-month novena, which I thought was serendipitous, so I asked my husband if he wanted to pray it with me. He was game. We came up with three “impossible”... Why I Stay Home

“Why?”
My old newspaper colleague sat across from me in the diner booth. Irritated, he asked me again, “Why?” with a quizzical smile.
The smile was there so I wouldn’t be offended. The quizzical was there because he was.
The three year old sat next to me and the baby was banging on the tray of the high chair because I was a little slow with the eggs. Business meetings with babies are always an odd... READ MORE
Loaves and Fishes
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Sunday, August 03, 2008
Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over.
