Praying with and for our Teens
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Tuesday, August 23, 2011
This week, we’re preparing to take one son back to college and the second son is busily adjusting to his Junior year in high school. It’s funny, when my sons were toddlers, I truly thought nothing could be more difficult or more stressful than a terrible two year old. The more we parent teens, the more I realize that every phase of parenting is filled with blessings and challenges. Point in case:... READ MORE

Moms Who Are Happy

It’s the subtitle of Meg Meeker’s latest book that attracted me.
The full title is, The 10 Habits of Happy Moms: Reclaiming Our Passion, Purpose and Sanity.
If you scroll down the page at that link, you’ll find a short interview with Dr. Meeker, a pediatrician, in which she explains that she wrote the book because she wanted moms to enjoy their mothering more.
That struck a chord with me, because... READ MORE
Mom My Ride

This video has been floating around for a little while, but it’s so perennially true that I just had to share it with you. Please pardon the “product placement” at the beginning and have fun with the theme of the video… how “mommed out” our cars can be! A few questions for you - does your car scream “mom”? Could you feed a family of four with the old fries stuck under your minivan seats? Or have you “graduated” from the SUV to a more economical model? Enjoy!
Advanced Maternal Age

I came across this article recently, 40 and Pregnant, and it kinda made laugh.
The article makes some valid points about having a baby after 40 (the need to take care of your body, the importance of understanding the risks) but it also seems to take an automatic negative stance, with a bit of a positive twist:
However being 40 and pregnant is not something that has to be feared. After all, celebrity... READ MORE
Mom Retreat
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Monday, July 25, 2011
As you read this, I’ll be in my car driving over to a coastal city a few hours from home. The occasion? I am leading a three day private retreat for a group of mom friends who will be gathering for a time of prayer, of worship, of discussion and of rest. There will be some fun in the mix too, as the women take advantage of a bit of time away from their families to recharge their batteries.
As I type... READ MORE
Faith & Family at Google+
Posted by Danielle Bean in News on Monday, July 18, 2011
I have been playing around with Google+ as much as time will allow in recent days, and so far, I really like what I see. I especially enjoy seeing some familiar Faith & Family faces when they pop up over there.
I know from Lisa’s recent post that some of you are experimenting with this latest form of social media as well. As I was creating different circles over the weekend, I thought it might be nice to gather a list of Faith & Family moms on Google+ so that we could connect with one another.
If you are over at Google+ and would like to be part of the Faith & Family list, please leave a comment on the Google+ post. That way, anyone who would like to form a “Faith & Family” circle at Google+ will be able to scroll through the list, right-click on names, and add them to their circle.
Thanks and see you there!
The Mission of Older Moms

I was feeling old this morning as a hot flash woke me at 5:23 and I realized there was no hope of going back to sleep. It’s ironic that once our children finally start sleeping in, our bodies seem to get to the point where sleep is less normal. I took advantage of my early start to head to our very early morning Mass, the one reserved for the truly saintly people at my parish (or at least that’s what... READ MORE
Daily Readings & Homilies in Your Inbox
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Monday, June 13, 2011
This is my friend Fr. Augustine Measures, OSB, whom I met online over five years ago.
I stole this photo from his Facebook page. Isn’t he just perfectly awesome? I would say handsome, but I don’t want to embarrass him.
A Benedictine monk, Fr. Augustine lives in the U.K. and he has always had a special place in his heart for Catholic families. He calls me at home occasionally, and I am always charmed by this loving priest’s thoughtfulness and spiritual care for moms and their families.
One of the ways Fr. Augustine provides that spiritual care for families is through the daily recordings he makes of the readings and his homilies at Mass. Even at 83 years old, this retired priest is undaunted by technology. He makes digital recordings of his homilies and shares them with an email list daily.
He told me he knows many moms and others aren’t able to get to daily Mass and it makes him happy to provide this service for them. If you would like to receive these recordings daily via email, please .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and ask to be put on his list. You will be glad you did!
They Really Do Grow Up

I had the joy and privilege last week of driving back to my former hometown of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to enjoy two different weddings of children of two of my very best friends. One on Friday evening, the other on Saturday morning.
The groom on Friday and the bride on Saturday were part of the Catholic homeschooling community. Our kids played together. Grace was in my homeschool drama club. I helped... READ MORE
