Looking For Small Successes?

Head on over to the lovely Sherry Antonetti’s place, where you will find this week’s post. See you there!

The Weird and the Wild

Ferrets! We have ferrets!

When my oldest son was visiting at Easter, he and one of my daughters shared some fond memories of a pet ferret we once had (whose untimely demise I did not mourn), and unbeknownst to me, offered to pay for another one should said daughter ever wish for it.

I’m not entirely sure how this happened — the kids must have drugged me — but within a week there was not one but two ferrets in our home.

Well,... READ MORE

How to Say Morning Prayer in Only 2 1/2 Hours

“How does a busy parent find time to pray the Divine Office?” the radio host asked me a few weeks back.

“It’s not that hard if you’re motivated,” I replied. “Just choose one of the liturgical hours, and link it to some other event on your schedule. Like, as soon as the kids leave for school, you do morning prayer. Or right after dinner, while the kids clear the table and start the dishes, you go sit... READ MORE

An Introvert's Holiday

What I Did for Mother's Day

A few days before Mother’s Day, I told my family, “Please don’t buy me flowers or cards. Don’t take me to brunch. Just hold down the fort for the day after we get back from Mass. Put some frozen pizzas in the oven when you get hungry. I want to go for a drive all by myself.”

The kids protested at first. After all, Dad (who was away on business) had called to help them brainstorm some nice ways to... READ MORE

Blessing for Moms

Happy Mother's Day!

Hope your day is filled with your favorite things!

Let’s all join in prayers of thanksgiving for the gift of our mothers and our motherhood today:
Father in heaven,
grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you conferred on me.
Let me realize that not even the angels have been blessed with such a privilege —to share in your creative miracle and bring new saints to heaven.
Make me a good mother to my children after the example of Mary,
the mother of your Son.
Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary,
I ask your continued blessings on my family.
Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven.
Amen.
