Peanut Recall

What do you do?

More products have recently been added to the list of foods possibly contaminated by salmonella from a Georgia peanut butter plant.

A few weeks ago, I bought a very large package of Austin Crackers from our local Sam’s Club, and today in the mail I received a letter advising me to return the crackers to the store for a full refund. Unfortunately, those crackers are long gone. By the time I started... READ MORE

More Dolls

more weird

When National Catholic Register senior editor Dave Pearson emailed me a link to a story about grown women playing with dolls, he thought it was cutting edge family-related weirdness.

Little did he know, that we here at Faith and Family have been covering the women and the dolls they play with story since October.

At any rate, I’d be neglecting some kind of journalistic duty if I did not report this follow-up. This is a different story about different women with different dolls. Weirder even than the first. Also with video. Do enjoy.

Friday Finds

What are you excited about?

A few weeks ago, my sister came home from the grocery store quite excited. While shopping, she had stumbled upon an incredible sale—her favorite high-efficiency laundry detergent for just $1.99.

She shared the news with me, and while we were taking a walk together, I heard her tell a friend and later tell her mother-in-law.

Good news is so fun to share!

It’s funny how simple little details can really... READ MORE

"No nuns were harmed in the making of this video."

Congrats to the Daughters of St. Paul for their big win at last weekend’s Unity Awards - they received the “Catholic grammy” award for Group of the Year.  You go girls!!  I love your music and your award is well deserved.

Your support is working!!

I just received an email with the great news that Fireproof was the number 3 American movie at the box office yesterday!!  This is in direct response to all of you out there who not only went out to see the movie, but also to those who have helped to spread the word about this great family film.

Pope Benedict XVI Visits France

The Holy Father travels to observe a special anniversary

Yesterday marked the first day of Pope Benedict XVI’s journey to France to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lourdes.

Catholic News Service offered an account of the Pope’s encouraging visit at the Cathedral of Notre Dame here.  I was moved by the following comments, made by the Pope to the young people of Paris who had flocked to the exterior of the Cathedral to see him:

“Always cultivate a thirst for the word of God.  Thus you will learn to love everyone you meet along life’s journey. In the church, everyone has a place, everyone.”

EWTN will be offering live coverage of Pope Benedict XVI’s apostolic journey on their website.  Watching these special addresses and masses unfold brings back wonderful memories of his recent visit to the United States and should be a great way to observe this special anniversary year.

UPDATE: Check out great photos and video at our sister site Pope2008.com too!

Pausing to Remember

Remembering and praying for those lost and impacted

At our Catholic school today, the children are invited to wear patriotic colors and will pause for a campus prayer ceremony in remembrance of those impacted by the tragedies on September 11, 2001.

I remember the morning of the attacks, watching the events unfold live on the television with disbelief.  I had been up early that morning working in the California predawn hours when a friend sent me the... READ MORE

This week on the Catholic Moments podcast (click here to listen) I had the chance to chat with Catholic Dad and musician Gerard Faucheux, whose music ministry was born in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
