Confused In Prayer?
Posted by DariaSockey in Faith on Thursday, June 09, 2011
This week, in the final days leading to the feast of Pentecost, the Church’s liturgy (Mass and Liturgy of the Hours) immerses us in all the many scriptural passages that talk about the nature and the actions of the Holy Spirit.
Tuesday evening’s vespers had those wonderful verses from Romans 8, worth quoting in full:
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we... READ MORE
Say and Pray Two Things at Once
Posted by DariaSockey in Faith on Monday, May 16, 2011
This morning, I began my usual Morning prayer from the Litugy of the Hours, making the sign of the cross while saying the opening verse:
“O God Come to my assistance/Lord, make haste to help me.”
Later on into the prayer, I again made the sign of the cross while praying “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, he has come to his people and set them free…” in the canticle of Zechariah.

And last year, Arwen told us the inspiring story of the big results she has seen this little prayer produce in her life. (Now that she is expecting twins, I have to wonder... READ MORE
Grace for Thanksgiving
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Thursday, November 25, 2010
Things will be a bit quiet around here as the bloggers take a break to enjoy the holiday weekend with their families.
I hope that you know, dear readers, that I count you and the community we share here at Faith & Family among my biggest blessings this Thanksgiving. You all are such an encouragement and inspiration to me in my motherhood. Thank you for being a part of what we do here. I hope you all will enjoy this special day with those you love most. God bless you and your families!
Grace for Thanksgiving
O Gracious God, we give you thanks for your overflowing generosity to us. Thank you for the blessings of the food we eat and especially for this feast today. Thank you for our home and family and friends, especially for the presence of those gathered here. Thank you for our health, our work and our play. Please send help to those who are hungry, alone, sick and suffering war and violence. Open our hearts to your love. We ask your blessing through Christ your son. Amen. (source)
Elijah Cup
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Wednesday, July 07, 2010
This week, my family is hosting the Elijah Cup, a beautiful chalice that rotates weekly from family to family at our parish. For the next few months, the Elijah Cup will go home with families from the early Mass that we attend, with the designated family coming forward at the end of Mass to receive the cup.
The chalice comes into the home, along with a journal for writing a reflection. Its presence... READ MORE
