Kateri Tekakwitha

With an oldest daughter named for Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, a question I hear from readers quite often is, “How do you pronounce it?”
Well, if you do a little research, you’ll find that the officially correct pronunciation is “Gah-deh-lee Deh-gah-quee-tah.”
But we don’t say that. We pronounce our daughter’s name “KAY-tuh-ree.” But she also answers to other common pronunciations such as “kuh-TEER-ee,”... READ MORE
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Wednesday, July 16, 2008
If you are as “organized” as I am, you might have missed beginning a novena to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel 9 days ago. You can still honor her feast day, though, by watching this video about the feast , learning more about devotion to the scapular, and praying a novena prayer to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel:
O most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven, blessed Mother of the Son... READ MORE
Young Ones and Older Ones
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Family on Thursday, July 17, 2008
I always knew my parents would make wonderful grandparents. Having successfully raised six children of their own, they’re quite competent with babies and young children, and they adore their grandchildren, my daughter Camilla and my sister’s son Daniel. My mom has a nearly endless tolerance for the parade of Seuss and Boynton that the toddlers bring her to “Read peez?” and my dad has a big gray... READ MORE
The Gathering of Wheat
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Sunday, July 20, 2008
The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
-- Matthew 13:40-43
Lord, give us righteous fear of your justice and the grace always to know... READ MORE

Redeemed

I just finished reading Redeemed: A Spiritual Misfit Stumbles Toward God, Marginal Sanity, and the Peace That Passes All Understanding by Heather King.
Before I read it, what intrigued me most about this book which chronicles one woman’s struggles with addiction and her spiritual journey toward Catholicism was that it came highly recommended to me ... by a non-Catholic.
But now that I’ve read... READ MORE
Feast of St. James
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Friday, July 25, 2008
Almighty Father, by the martyrdom of St. James you blessed the work of the early Church. May his profession of faith give us courage and his prayers bring us strength. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Pearl of Great Price
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Sunday, July 27, 2008
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
-- Matthew 13:45-46
Lord, give us grace to know the value of heaven and to willingly sacrifice to attain it.
Finding The Hidden Treasure
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Sunday, July 27, 2008
In today’s gospel, Jesus likens the kingdom of heaven to “a treasure buried in a field”. Fr. Jerome, our homilist at Mass this morning, challenged each of us in our parish to a period of self-assessment this week.
Knowing the Eucharist and the promise of the kingdom of heaven are this life’s greatest treasures, am I ready to make the sacrifices and take the decisive action necessary in my life... READ MORE
Pilgrims’ Prayers

We spent the day yesterday at Goose Rocks Beach in Maine. I’ve got the sunburned neck, sand-filled van, and exhausted children to prove it. It was a tiring day, but as always, making the effort to get our gang to the ocean proved worthwhile.
On the way home, Dan and I decided to drive through Kennebunk in order to take the kids to the St. Anthony Franciscan Monastery that we used to visit back when... READ MORE
