Off to Israel
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Just me on Monday, January 23, 2012
On Wednesday of this week, I’ll be able to cross a lifelong dream off of my “some day” list as I depart on a nine-day trip to Israel. I’ll be in the company of nine other Catholic writers as part of a trip arranged by the Catholic Press Association in conjunction with the Israeli Ministry of Tourism.
Our nine-day adventure will take us to many of the highlights of Israel—mentally, as I write this... READ MORE

Showing Sympathy
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Thursday, March 03, 2011
Today I ran into an acquaintance I had not seen since last summer. This woman suffered the devastating loss of her teenage son a few months ago and and today was the first I had seen her since that sad time.
“I am so sorry,” I told the woman today, “we have been praying for you.”
She was grateful for the prayers, she told me. And that was about all we said to each other. We don’t really know each... READ MORE
Praying Together

Do you say a family rosary? Is it daily, weekly?
I want to give a brief testimony to anyone struggling with this concept: it’s worth the effort.
I almost used the word “pain” instead of “effort,” because there are plenty of times when gathering the brood to say the rosary can be epic. We pray every day as a family, but there are many days when we adjust the depth and scope of our gathering to fit... READ MORE

What is it about a big storm that feels thrilling?
Maybe it’s left over from my days as a Michigan school child, when blizzards meant snow day play.
At any rate, I have to admit I got a little excited when I read that the storm expected to hit Chicago tomorrow morning may be the worst in 70 years.
It’s been dubbed the “Great Lakes Cyclone” and after it sweeps over the western side of Lake Michigan... READ MORE
A Tiny Big Deal

Did you listen to today’s podcast yet? If so, you heard my exciting announcement. If not, you’d better listen to find out what it is!
Just kidding. I wouldn’t do that to you.
We’re thrilled (and exhausted) at the Mosher household this month, because we found out that baby #3 is on the way.
I know!!!!
Because it happened very quickly compared to my other pregnancies, we were surprised. Honestly, my... READ MORE
A Small Prayer Answered

Our son is not a good sleeper, and it has exhausted my husband and me.
For months we tried every trick we knew and many that we invented on the spot. We made progress, but not enough. We were exhausted from being up multiple times every night, sometimes for multiple hours.
It was manageable - with positive attitudes and taking shifts, we coped - but it was not fun.
We prayed about Blaise’s sleep... READ MORE
A Rose from the Flower
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Friday, October 01, 2010
The feast of the Little Flower is almost over, and in case you didn’t get a rose today, here’s one. I wish I could give every reader a real rose, but virtual will have to do.
St. Therese is my sister’s patroness and ever since I read Story of a Soul in college, I’ve felt an affinity for her too. Today I asked her to say special prayers for all of our Faith & Family readers. I hope that you will feel God’s love through her in an extraordinary way.
Happy Feast of St. Therese!
Wisdom of the Child

This afternoon I was having a momentary freak-out, end-of-day flash of melt that wasn’t pretty. Not at all. It was just one of those split-second flashes where the reality of the situation was greatly overshadowed by my annoyance and also the number of discarded shoes left on the front-room floor. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of life but actually yes totally a very big deal.
Because everyone... READ MORE
College Roll Call
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Family on Wednesday, August 18, 2010
I’ve been majorly preoccupied the past few days with the launching of my son Eric off to college. I’ll be sure to continue to share insights on that during the next few days here on the blog - we leave tonight to drive to San Francisco. Early tomorrow morning, we’ll put Eric on a plane to Boston, where he’ll be attending pre-orientation at Harvard. Then next Tuesday, Greg and I will fly out to... READ MORE
