Simple Joys

Toddlers are complicated

Last night, Henry sat on my lap during family prayers. He can now fold his hands while we pray and as I peered down to see his chubby fingers pressed perfectly against each other, his thumbs neatly crossed, I had the same thought over and over.

“Is there anything as delicious,” I marvelled, “as a toddler’s hands?”

What a sweet moment. This moment balanced out nicely the ways things went the other day.... READ MORE

Big Prayers, Big Results

Novena power

This year, for the first time ever, my husband and I are saying the Novena for Impossible Requests.

I’d never heard of this novena before, but happened to catch a link Danielle posted on her Twitter page last Wednesday.  It was the beginning day of the nine-month novena, which I thought was serendipitous, so I asked my husband if he wanted to pray it with me.  He was game.  We came up with three “impossible”... The Evil of Fear

The battle for our hearts and minds

Fear is a powerful thing.

We parents especially should be aware of this, since it is constantly used against us as a marketing tool.

Those in the baby-stuff business employ scare tactics to sell everything from car seats to magazines.  Better hope your child’s car seat is at the top of the Consumer Reports safety list!  Fail to read this article and you won’t know if you’re inadvertently poisoning... READ MORE

Asking Your Prayers

a message from our publisher

I thought you might like to see the note our publisher, Fr. Owen Kearns, LC, posted at our sister site regarding Fr. Maciel.

Except of course for the part about the priesthood, he says what I’d like to say, and what I think any Regnum Christi member would.

So Sad

Praying for Amy

I am so sad and shocked to hear of the death of Michael Dubruiel.

I met Michael and Amy this summer at the New Media Celebration, and they were so generous and kind. It was a great day of hanging out, asking them a million questions and getting a million answers. They are that wonderful.

Prayers for Amy and the children, for peace and comfort and a sense of God’s presence in the midst of this dark time.

Seeking a Miracle

St. Blaise, pray for us!

Three weeks ago we took our daughter to the emergency room in the wee hours of the morning because she had developed croup and was having trouble breathing.  I was 37 weeks pregnant at the time, and as we drove through the cold and dark, I said to my husband, “I really think we should definitely go with the name Blaise for this baby.  Our family could use St. Blaise’s patronage.”

I didn’t know just... READ MORE
