The Husband Can

the stranger must not

I shared this on Twitter last week and enough people seemed to find it as funny as I do that I thought I’d share it here in case anyone needs a quick laugh.

Miss Manners on the correct way to ask a woman if she is pregnant: enjoy!

Get Down the Pounds

the ups and downs

I came across an interesting article about a man who was in fantastic shape who decided to gain a bunch of weight and then after six months, work to get fit again.

I kept thinking how this story seemed vaguely familiar. And then I remembered why. I’ve done this. Six times.

Of course I appreciate this man’s motives. He wants to show people that you can lose the weight and get in shape. It just made... READ MORE

The Results of Your Prayers

Meet My Grandbaby!

Introducing Harald Anthony Martin Mathie, my first grandchild. The one I asked prayers for just about two weeks ago when he was delivered at 28 weeks’ gestation.

Baby is doing very well. He’s been breathing on his own right from the start, and seems to resent the c-pap oxygen feed, frequently pulling it off as if to say, “I don’t need this thing!” It will probably be removed in another week or so,... READ MORE

Urgent Prayer Request

Please pray for my daughter and grandchild

I’d like to impose on all you wonderful, faith-filled women for some prayers today for my first grandchild, who will be born in the next few hours, by c-section, at only 28 weeks’ gestation.

My daughter Bernadette has already been in the hospital on bedrest for the last month following loss of amniotic fluid. Due to some contractions and a high white blood count, the doctors have decided that this little boy will now be better off on the outside of Mom. Please pray for a safe delivery of a healthy baby. Thank you in advance.

Advanced Maternal Age

the pro's and con's

I came across this article recently, 40 and Pregnant, and it kinda made laugh.

The article makes some valid points about having a baby after 40 (the need to take care of your body, the importance of understanding the risks) but it also seems to take an automatic negative stance, with a bit of a positive twist:

However being 40 and pregnant is not something that has to be feared. After all, celebrity... READ MORE

Prayers for Arwen

Just a quick note to ask that you please keep Arwen and her twin baby boys in prayer. She went into labor this afternoon and is at the hospital where they are attempting to stop the contractions.

Her most recent update was: “Our goal now is for me to stay pregnant til Sat afternoon, 24hrs after tomorrow’s 2nd steroid shot. If we make it, we’ll go from there.”

You can get more updates on her Twitter account.

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, St. Anne, and St. Gerard, please pray for Arwen and her babies!

Pregnancy Fatigue

When do you start wanting the baby out?

My husband and I were getting in the car. I made an “oof” sound as I climbed into my seat, and he glanced at me sympathetically. “I bet you’re ready to be done being pregnant now, huh?”

What? “Of course not! I’m only 30 weeks! It’s way too early for these babies to be born.”

After a pause, I realized he didn’t mean he wants me to give birth now, just that he imagines I’m starting to think fondly of... READ MORE

Learning from the Couch

On being forced to slow down

Being a mother is a busy, busy job.

My husband and I try to build a certain amount of slow, quiet time into our lives. (My theory is that God must think this is important, or he wouldn’t have designed children to need more sleep than adults!) As long as our routine is plugging along, I get enough slowing-down to keep myself from being frazzled and out of control.

But still: busy, busy, busy. Except... READ MORE

Name Secret

Do you share your baby names?

One of the first things that I thought about when I found out we were having twins: baby names.

We’d already decided - having done it both ways, and having liked it better this way - to find out the sex of the baby by ultrasound, but once we learned the babies were twins, we were even more certain that we would. When you’re having one baby of unknown gender, you need a boy name and a girl name. When... READ MORE

Guardian Near

Learning to call on my angel

Do you talk to your guardian angel?

My sister has a special relationship with hers, and she regularly encourages the rest of us to ask our angels for prayers and help.

I’ve always thought - based on what I knew about guardian angels - that this seemed like a good idea, but somehow I never got into the habit.

That changed early last month.

I had my first visit to the maternal-fetal medicine specialists... READ MORE
