Stem Cell Developments

Embryonic Stem Cells have been in the news again.

Last week a federal district judge issued an injunction against NIH using federal funds for embryonic stem cell research.

He reasoned that the President’s executive order permitting such funding contravenes federal law, at least pending the outcome of a case working its way through the courts.

You can read more about that here.

In related news, a... READ MORE

Simple, Powerful, Pro-Life Ad

40 seconds of important education

Here’s an amazingly simple and yet powerful pro-life ad. It was originally produced as a radio ad in Ireland, but was banned for being “too political.” Now, thanks to the power of YouTube and the efforts of Irish pro-life group Youth Defence, it’s finding a wider audience. Perhaps you can help pass it on!

Lovely Pro-Life Lullaby

'Angel in the Waters' meets music

Angel in the Waters, the sweet pro-life picture book written by Regina Doman and illustrated by Ben Hatke, has been a favorite in our house for years. So I was happy to see this video on YouTube, featuring illustrations from the book with a pro-life lullaby (words and music by Topy Lozano). Very sweet.

Anyone who is not familiar with Angel in the Waters can read it online here. Sophia Institute Press is also running a promotion right now where you can get a free hard copy of the book. Get the details here.

Pro-Life TV Show Wins Emmy Award

(Video is a clip of Facing Life Head On trailer)

I was excited to learn this week that Facing Life Head On, a weekly pro-life television show, was awarded a regional Emmy in the category of Interview and Discussion.

The show, which is a project of the Life Issues Institute, won the award on the strength of an episode in which Mattes interviewed Missy Davert, a woman who is 2 feet 11 inches tall and... READ MORE

A Real Public Service

Bert was always my favorite character in Mary Poppins, but I like Dick Van Dyke even more now.

The actor is donating his time as the new spokesperson for the Cell Therapy Foundation, which supports and educates about adult stem cell research. It’s good work!

You can see the first PSA featuring Mr. Van Dyke at the Cell Therapy Foundation’s website.

Loving Them Both

How do we do it?

We went to my brother’s high school graduation, and there was a pregnant girl in his class.

She must have been close to full-term, because even though she was capped and gowned, you couldn’t miss the reality of her condition.

My sister elbowed me as we watched her walk across the stage. “Look at that. Good for her!”

I agreed. A part of me wanted to find the girl after the ceremony and tell her how... READ MORE

Finalmente!

Last Saturday, the pro-life movement lost one of its most cogent Jewish thinkers.

Prof. Hadley Arkes was received into the Church.

He writes a little bit about it here.

I am only kidding about losing a Jewish thinker. In remarks he made at the celebration dinner following his initiation as a Catholic, Hadley made it clear he doesn’t consider himself to be leaving Judaism behind, but only following it to its fulfillment.... READ MORE

A Kid With Vision

an ad worth watching

I think this might be the most pro-life ad I’ve ever seen—and it’s advertising a snack.

Doesn’t that remind you of John Paul the Great’s remark that among the goods parents strive to give their kids, the greatest is siblings?

With a polite nod to First Thoughts

Creative Ad Campaign from Catholic Vote

I blogged about this very cool ad campaign from Catholic Vote at NCRegister last week. I am so thrilled to see this video of the ad on the streets and people’s positive reactions to its pro-life message. You can see the ad up-close here.

Are Domestic Violence Shelters Pro-Life?

Reader Kristen writes:

“When I was reading your post about not being able to donate some (or all) of your 40 bags at your normal donation site and the Vincent de Paul society being closed, I saw that several people commented about making donations to domestic violence shelters.

I was recently told by a friend in another state (I’m in NC) that in her town, the 3 domestic violence shelters provide assistance... READ MORE
