Quitting Facebook? Not Me.

Are you into social networking?
Facebook buzz has reached a fever pitch this week as everyone’s favorite (or most detested) social network launches its initial public offering tomorrow. Some have questioned the skyrocketing value of Facebook, and plenty of others have questioned whether it has any merit at all and is not simply a collossal time dump. This article at CNN today discusses why one tech columnist won’t be ditching Facebook... READ MORE

Casual Fridays - Are You a Naysayer?

Yes or No or Maybe?

This week, I found myself in a protracted business meeting that caused my blood pressure to rise as the minutes ticked by.  The cause of my frustration?  A “no person”.

In my family, we were taught to “always err on the side of generosity” by two parents who said “yes” to requests as frequently as possible and practical.  I think this predisposed me to being a “yes” person. Admittedly, this gets... READ MORE

Casual Fridays - Data Tsunami

Are you being washed away by too much information?
This week, I saw an interesting report on six technology trends proposed by the FutureMedia Conference at Georgia Tech.  The trend that most hit me was the first one, which they are calling “Data Tsunami”.  Conferences organizers reported that between now and 2020, an amazing 35 trillion gigabytes of information will have been created and replicated around the world.  With all of this information hitting us at home and in the workplace, do you feel overwhelmed by all of the data in your life or are you managing to ride the wave?  I’ll give my answer in the comments below but I’d love to hear from you too!

The Facebook Dilemma

Do you Like or Dislike?

I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. On the one hand, I love being connected with so many people, seeing all kinds of photographs, reading snippets here and there about a wide variety of random tidbits of information that has zero impact on my productivity.

On the other hand, see above.

Facebook is a vortex that sucks me in, and whenever I do have to enter the gates I brace myself. It can... READ MORE

You've Got (Too Much) Mail

How do you deal with an overflowing inbox?

I’m happy to be at home, seated in my lovely office after nearly two consecutive weeks of wonderful Catholic travel.  Hugs from my three men and a night in my own bed are the best welcome in the world.  I woke up this morning, ready to take on the day.

And then I logged into my Gmail account, checked Twitter, popped on to Facebook, and felt like going back to bed.

Wow, the stacks of virtual “to do”... READ MORE

Hair Happiness

How blow-drying brightens my life

My kids are happily occupied with apple slices and a pile of books. Laundry, tidying, and dinner prep are on my to-do list today. I should seize this time.

But it’s been twenty minutes since my shower and my hair is at the crucial point between wet and dry. My list can wait. I head for the bathroom to grab my blow dryer and round brush.

It takes about ten minutes to blow-dry my hair. I’ve got a cut... READ MORE

Picking It Up

Better living through tidiness

In today’s podcast, I mentioned that I’m trying a suggestion from Lisa’s new book The Handbook for Catholic Moms: keeping my house fairly tidy during the day.

Bryan and I work together to make sure that our house is orderly before we go to bed every night, and I also attempt to have the place decently tidy when he gets home from work. But putting extra effort into keeping the house in order during... READ MORE

When Things Calm Down…

Do you find yourself very busy these days?

This week has been a whirlwind of fun and excitement for our family.  Many of you know that I’m in the midst of the launch of my first book,  The Handbook for Catholic Moms: Nurturing Your Heart, Mind, Body and Soul.  Never in a million years would I have imagined that I—a stay at home mom from Fresno—would have some of the experiences that I’m living through these days.  Every moment is a true blessing... Moving Stuff Around

Do you like to rearrange?

This past weekend, Greg and I were busy around the house doing a three room shuffle that resulted in me getting a new home office for the new year.  I wish I had a “before” picture of my old space to show you how bad things had gotten in that room before the big move!  This photo is of my new space before we began to move the “stuff” in to the room.  It’s likely that within a month, I’ll have the...
