WWJD? Is There a Better Question?

It’s on teen wristbands, hats, and t-shirts. I even once saw WWJD? tattooed on a young woman’s arm.

The idea, of course, is that we should continually ask ourselves: What Would Jesus Do? as a way of ensuring we will always do the right thing.

The question has become so commonplace, that I think most of us never pause to examine it. Or even to ask if this is an appropriate way to determine what we... READ MORE

Tea Time

this is what I'm talkin' bout

Arwen’s post about coffee vs. tea had me analyzing which I prefer (pregnancy is making me really ponder things, you know?). I was all set to leave a comment about my great love for coffee and how tea does nothing for me until I realized… I drink tea every single day.

I guess the argument is about HOT tea versus coffee, but down yonder in the South, sweet tea is THE beverage of choice. Personally,... READ MORE

Is It Okay to "Parish Shop"?

Ask a Priest vol. 2

Q: Is it required that we attend our home parish (just a few blocks away) when possible, or is it acceptable to attend Mass in another town on a regular basis? Our reasons are many, and probably too personal to go into here.

A: This question has a short answer and a long answer.  I will try to land in between the extremes.

The Bottom Line

Strictly speaking, the Church is quite reasonable in what she... READ MORE

Columbus Day Distractions

Things will be a bit quiet here today, as we observe Columbus Day (Happy Thanksgiving Canadian readers!).

But here’s a discussion topic to keep you busy ...

If some unnamed mother were terribly distracted and in an awful hurry to bring her kids to the fair last Friday evening and she made hasty stop at an ATM where she might have taken the cash but then possibly could have maybe just forgotten her card in the machine ...

What would happen?

If no one came along immediately and took the card, would it be too much to hope that the ATM would not leave her card sitting in the machine, available for any and all takers but would, in fact, keep her card safely so that she might reclaim it at the bank when it re-opened on Tuesday morning after the long weekend?

Tell me this poor unnamed woman is not hoping in vain.

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences—it helps to know I’m not the only “Homer” who has ever done this. I called the bank this morning and they told me my card was left in the machine and it has been destroyed. I’ll have to wait 10 business days to get a new one. Arrrgghh!!
