Series Love
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Family on Wednesday, February 01, 2012
Do you ever get asked what your favorite book is?
For me, that’s a hard question. Pick a favorite? Out of the many, many wonderful stories that have been written and published? ONE favorite book?
Nope, can’t do it.
But one of the things that I always think about when I try to come up with an answer is this: my favorite books are not single books, they’re series. (Serieses?)
I get attached to the people... READ MORE

A Good Book
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Wednesday, October 05, 2011
A friend of mine recently recommended a book I just had to read. The writing was amazing, he said, and inspiring and he was so moved by the experience that he was speechless. Bottom line: must read.
So I tracked down this book, had to get it send from one library to another, and when it finally came and I dove in I felt…iffy.
The writing was indeed amazing, the author insightful and honest. But that... READ MORE
When Good Teachers Make Bad Judgments
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Family on Monday, September 26, 2011
A girlfriend of mine has been posed a dilemma.
In an otherwise sound Catholic school—
high academic standards, religion classes faithful to Catholic teaching, and wholesome learning environment—
her freshman child has been assigned a truly wretched book to read.
Not judgment-call wretched. Wretched.
A book which includes incidents I feel I can’t describe here, language the San Francisco Examiner... READ MORE
Finding Motivation and Books
Posted by Lisa Hendey in News on Thursday, June 30, 2011
This week on the Faith & Family Live Cast (click here to listen or click on the player above), Lynn, Hallie and I take a break from the summer heat to enjoy a fun conversation about staying “motivated” during the summer, when all we really feel like doing is sipping a cool drink and taking a nap! Are you feeling lazy and lax this summer? How do you motivate yourself to stay on top of teaching kids,... READ MORE
Book Worm
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Wednesday, June 29, 2011
I am currently in book number four of a charmingly wonderful series of books (hint: I am in love with a dog named Barnabas).
It has been so fun to start reading this series now because each time I finish a book there is another one just waiting for me at the library. Already written, no waiting list, sitting there on the shelf in the hopes of my visit.
Today I spent hours reading, and it was wonderful.... READ MORE
How to Say Morning Prayer in Only 2 1/2 Hours
Posted by DariaSockey in Faith on Thursday, May 19, 2011
“How does a busy parent find time to pray the Divine Office?” the radio host asked me a few weeks back.
“It’s not that hard if you’re motivated,” I replied. “Just choose one of the liturgical hours, and link it to some other event on your schedule. Like, as soon as the kids leave for school, you do morning prayer. Or right after dinner, while the kids clear the table and start the dishes, you go sit... READ MORE
Did You Know You Could Do This With a Kindle?
Posted by DariaSockey in Reviews on Thursday, May 12, 2011
This is my recent anniversary present — an Amazon Kindle.
Three months ago, I never would have dreamed of wanting such a thing, belonging, as I do, to that group of people (generally over age 45, although there are younger exceptions), who disdainfully sniff at the idea of ebooks.
“Who wants to spend any more hours staring at a screen than I have to?” we say.
“I like holding my book in my hand while... READ MORE
New Teen Magazine Looks Great
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Reviews on Wednesday, April 20, 2011
I’m always happy to promote the work of fellow Catholics, and especially when their projects are as greatly needed and as totally cool as Ink and Fairydust Magazine. Shaylynn, one of the teens involved in this super project, wrote me recently and invited me to help spread the word. Here’s what she has to say about the magazine:
My name is Shaylynn, a 16 year old homeschooled Catholic, and for the... READ MORE
Lenten Reading
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Tuesday, March 08, 2011
If you are looking for some spiritual reading to enhance your Lent, I offer you Secret Fire, by Joseph Langford.
The book examines what happened interiorly with Mother Teresa that day on the train when she felt the Holy Spirit move her towards a new ministry. I’m only a few chapters in and am already stirred by the experience and also the notion that God always has so much more in store for us than... READ MORE
