Blaise was confused this morning, pointing to the spot in our living room where our Christmas tree was standing until we took it down yesterday evening. He misses it, although he’s mollified by my promises that we’ll have another next year.

When I was growing up we had a lot of family portraits done.
During my early childhood there were the department-store photos, and from the time I was around eight years old, we had a family picture taken every other year at a really good photography studio. I don’t have a baby book for Camilla. I decided before she was born that I wouldn’t get one. I’m not a crafty person, so I knew I wouldn’t do a good job with a baby book, and the obligation to keep it up would always feel like a burden.
