The Gift of Time to Pray
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Thursday, July 21, 2011
Whenever I’m in a stressful period (like having newborn twins, hey!) I need to pray. And sadly, all that stress makes it harder than usual to find time to pray.
I often end up feeling stressed or like a failure because I haven’t fit prayer into my day, but it honestly never occurred to me that there’s a simple way I can help myself get the time: ask for it.

Sharing Prayer

Sometimes when my tiny twin boys are kicking me, I actually tear up thinking about how many people are praying for them.
To me, prayers are probably the biggest perk of being a blogger. My babies don’t deserve prayer more than any other babies, but they get it because so many kind, generous people know about their existence and wish the best for them. What a blessing that is!
Today, I’d like to share... READ MORE
Yum Yam

Ahhh, autumn. When the mind turns to thoughts of… sweet potatoes.
Well, my mind does, anyway.
I lived a mostly sweet-potato-less childhood, and it wasn’t until I was in my twenties that I realized how much I like them. My introduction was simple: a baked sweet potato with butter and brown sugar. The warm, sweet, earthy flavor hooked me.
My mom did always make a “yam casserole” at Thanksgiving, but... READ MORE
A Small Prayer Answered

Our son is not a good sleeper, and it has exhausted my husband and me.
For months we tried every trick we knew and many that we invented on the spot. We made progress, but not enough. We were exhausted from being up multiple times every night, sometimes for multiple hours.
It was manageable - with positive attitudes and taking shifts, we coped - but it was not fun.
We prayed about Blaise’s sleep... READ MORE
Fruit Salad Stumped
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Food on Tuesday, June 08, 2010
I like fruit, and I like the idea of fruit salad, but the reality often disappoints me.
The usual process: I cut up fruit and mix it together in a bowl, and then I dig in. It tastes fine. It tastes better than the individual fruits would on their own. But it doesn’t blow me away. I want it to blow me away.
I think I’m missing something. Dressing, perhaps? Or maybe there’s a correct combination of fruits that would create the magical taste I’m looking for.
This summer, I want to get fruit salad right. I’d love to have a recipe so delicious that I can’t wait to make it over and over again.
If you’ve had success with fruit salad, can you help me? I’d appreciate any recipes and/or tips you can give!
Whining Time

Tonight two friends and I were commiserating about our three-year-olds.
We love our three-year-olds, of course. What a fun and interesting age three is!
There are downsides, though. My friends both have children very close to Camilla in age, and it turns out we’re all dealing with the same frustration: constant whining.
My daughter whines when she doesn’t get what she wants. She whines when she’s... READ MORE
In Search of Baked Greatness

When I was first married I made plenty of casseroles because I couldn’t cook very well yet. I generally called my mother at least once during the process even when I was trying to make something as simple as biscuits! Mixing some ingredients in a dish and baking it was fool-proof and therefore perfect for my kitchen-inept self.
In seven years I’ve gained a lot of skill in the kitchen. I have also... READ MORE
Seeking Your Input
Posted by Danielle Bean in News on Friday, January 02, 2009
For Faith and Family magazine, we’re working on a guide to Catholic family spirituality. We are particularly interested in books, products, toys, or services that have enhanced your family’s faith life in the following areas:
1. Mass
2. Prayer
3. Confession
4. Community Service
We’d love to hear about items that nurture the faith life of parents, families, or children.
If you have an item to recommend, please send a brief description of the product, along with the ways you have used it and how it has helped your family (again—brief!) to me by email.
I will forward your responses to Lori Hadacek, the writer working on this project, and she will be in touch with any further questions.
Thanks so much for your help!
