Calling All Catechists!
Posted by DariaSockey in Faith on Wednesday, September 07, 2011
The new school year that for most of us begins either this week or next week is the herald of the shortly to begin Religious Education Year as well. If you are a catechist, you are probably gearing up for that event.
Whether you are a battle scarred veteran or an excited first-timer, it’s always nice to have a new source of inspiration and practical tips. Here are two, both by veteran catechist Lisa... READ MORE
Watching Rome
Posted by Arwen Mosher in News on Friday, April 29, 2011
Now that the Royal Wedding is over, who’s looking to Rome?
I certainly am, and I love that Lisa is praying for our Faith & Family community while she’s there. What a gift!
I read that more than 2 million people are expected to be visiting Rome this weekend for our late Holy Father’s beatification. I’m sure many, many more of us will be watching from afar.
To help us do that, the Vatican has resources on its website. Here is a calendar of events for the weekend. And for those of us who want to learn (or show our kids) more about the soon-to-be-Blessed John Paul II, this multimedia page, A Tribute to John Paul II, is loaded with information.
Unique For A Reason

The Bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee in Defense of Marriage has a host of useful resources on that topic.
Links to Church documents, videos, the latest news about Church positions on state issues—
—and a very good “FAQ” section, with answers not only from a religious perspective, but arguments that can be used when you are discussing these issues with anyone.
Jesus Loves the Little Children
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Tuesday, February 22, 2011
My friend Kelly at In the Sheepfold recently had a thoughtful post on the resources she’s used to teach her young children about Jesus. I was inspired by her list, and also reminded about some of the things we have done in our home to foster a love of the faith and a love for Jesus.
Kelly mentioned several great resources, including The Donut Man materials, Magnifikid magazine, and a variety of books.... READ MORE
My Rosary Top Ten
Posted by Sarah Reinhard in Faith on Friday, October 08, 2010
This week has been a great blessing to me. I have really benefited from the insight and wisdom in the comments. Thank you to everyone for being so gracious and welcoming!
Today I’m collecting my top ten rosary resources for you. This list isn’t exhaustive, and I had to leave a lot of things off of it. Being a tad bit obsessive compulsive, I knew that if I didn’t draw the line at a certain number (like... READ MORE
Heart, Mind and Strength
Posted by Lisa Hendey in News on Monday, October 04, 2010
I’m so blessed to have received the invitation of a lifetime from the very kind folks at Ave Maria Radio. Tuesday at noon ET, I will be guest hosting the wonderful “Heart, Mind and Strength” program of Dr. Greg and Lisa Popcak. Greg and Lisa are heading up a marriage conference in Australia, so I’ll be sitting in and enjoying some time with their radio audience. I know many of you join me in being major fans of Greg and Lisa, and that you love their show as much as I do. You’re invited to listen live via the Ave Maria Radio website at www.AveMariaRadio.net. I’d also love it if you feel like calling in and visiting - dial 877-573-7825 to be a part of the show. And if you can spare a prayer, send that my way too!
Baby Name Statistics
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Just me on Monday, August 02, 2010
As a big-time baby-name geek, I’ve spent hours on the Social Security Administration’s baby name page and on the Baby Name Wizard, looking at statistics on different names.
But as a person with a very unusual name, I’ve always been bothered by the fact that I couldn’t look up names beyond the top 1000. There was no way, as far as I could tell, to see how many US babies were named “Arwen” the year... READ MORE
Giving Too Much?
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Family on Thursday, May 20, 2010
The responses to my “Helping Hands” post from Monday made me realize: wow, I was taking a simplistic view of this one!
This is one of the reasons I love writing here at Faith & Family, because our lovely readers so often introduce me to new points of view. When I write about a topic, I try to consider as many angles as possible, but I miss so many. When I wrote about stepping out of my comfort zone... READ MORE
Help Me Take the Plunge
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Health on Wednesday, March 10, 2010
The two times I’ve posted about my sinus problems, commenters have mentioned that a wheat-free dairy-free diet has given sinus relief them or to people they know.
I’m intrigued.
I love bread and other wheat products. I eat cheese and other dairy every day. It would be hard to give them up. But my sinus pain is so bad and so constant that I think I’d be willing to try it if it would help. At the very... READ MORE
Divorce: Now What?
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Marriage on Friday, December 04, 2009
If you’ve suffered a divorce or know someone who has, you might like to know about Divorced Catholic.
It includes FAQs relating to divorce, and Journey of Hope, an online program aimed at helping divorced Catholics with practical, spiritual, emotional and moral issues related to the experience of divorce, and more.
I’m so glad to see this because Church teaching with respect to divorce seems to be... READ MORE
