Family Restaurant

do you eat out with your kids?

Before our daughter was born, we used to eat in restaurants all the time. And - although it seems crazy to me now - after she was born, we kept it up at almost the same rate.

As soon as Milla (who’d been a colicky newborn) could make it through a meal without scream-blasting the eardrums of those around us, we started taking her out to eat at family-friendly places. It got easier as she aged, and... READ MORE

Panera - Pay What You Can

Will this experiment work?

I LOVE my local Panera Bread.  Along with its strong coffee and free Internet connection, our cafe offers a great spot for me to have meetings or enjoy an occasional and affordable lunch with girlfriends.

Now Panera CEO Ron Shaich wants to do more than just provide great food.  He wants to “make a difference in the world”.  Shaich and Panera recently opened their first non-profit restaurant in St. Louis... READ MORE

Getting What You Pay For

How do you handle it when you're eating out?

This past weekend my husband and I went out for dinner. I ordered crab cakes, and they were great, with big lumps of crab and almost no filler. Unfortunately, they were also lukewarm.

I politely asked for the crab cakes to be reheated a little, but instead they brought me new ones. Which were, unfortunately, actually colder than their predecessors. I had Bryan stick his finger into the center of one... READ MORE

Parents Behaving Badly

Does Chuck E. Cheese make people violent?

Does the sight of this mouse incite a violent reaction?

I thought about Arwen’s post about noisy toys and how noise can drive parents crazy when I read this article about the problem of escalating violence at Chuck E. Cheese restaurants.

“It’s madness, absolute madness,” Susquehanna Twp. Police Chief Robert A. Martin said.

Martin said he believes much of the violence stems from ongoing disputes among... READ MORE

Eating out with Kids

A worth-it challenge?

Since we’re on vacation, we’ve been eating out much more than usual.

As those of you who’ve been there know, eating out with toddlers can be a challenge.  Their attention spans are so short, and sometimes those little ones just don’t listen to reason!

Our daughter generally does okay in restaurants.  It helps that our parent-to-child ratio is 2-to-1, and that Bryan and I seat Camilla between us and... READ MORE
