Mom Retreat

When was the last time you had one?

As you read this, I’ll be in my car driving over to a coastal city a few hours from home. The occasion? I am leading a three day private retreat for a group of mom friends who will be gathering for a time of prayer, of worship, of discussion and of rest. There will be some fun in the mix too, as the women take advantage of a bit of time away from their families to recharge their batteries.

Something to Smile About

Steubenville San Diego

I’m happy to report that your prayers worked well!  After dropping the boys off at 6 am on Friday morning, I marveled all day at how quiet our house was.  Remember that I live with three musicians, so something is almost constantly playing around here!  By Friday night,... READ MORE

Benedict On Retreat

the Pope's retreat...and yours?

In his Angelus address, the Pope took the occasion to ask for prayers and to reflect on all of Lent as a retreat.

If you’d like to use St. Ignatius’ meditations for your own reflection this Lent, check out the Spiritual Exercises Blog.

The authors, a group of Jesuits around the United States, acknowledge that... READ MORE

Time for Two

In search of great marriage retreats

Reader Shannon reached out to me this past week with the following query:

Hi!  I’d like to find a good Marriage retreat, and I was wondering if you have any suggestions.  Looking around on the internet, it’s so hard to know what’s good and what isn’t.  My husband and I have 2 free plane tickets and would like to use them to fly to a really great retreat that we can both attend.  Any ideas?

Friends,... READ MORE

Take An Online Lenten Retreat

A few resources to help you focus on your prayer life during Lent

For busy moms, Lent can be a special time of the liturgical year to focus on our spiritual lives.  But life rarely stands still long enough to allow us long, lingering hours of prayer or the opportunity for a retreat getaway.

Fortunately this year, there are several great resources online to help you focus on prayer and thanksgiving this Lenten season.  Here are a few of my favorites:
