Unity Candle Questions Answered
Posted by Danielle Bean in Marriage on Friday, January 02, 2009
In this week’s Coffee Talk, an interesting question came up on the subject of unity candles used at weddings.
Kristen, who knew of an engaged couple who do not want to have a “unity candle” at their wedding, but are concerned that it might be a required part of the ceremony, wrote:
“I think a unity candle is a beautiful symbol of families coming together but I had never heard of it being a part of... READ MORE
Seeking Your Input
Posted by Danielle Bean in News on Friday, January 02, 2009
For Faith and Family magazine, we’re working on a guide to Catholic family spirituality. We are particularly interested in books, products, toys, or services that have enhanced your family’s faith life in the following areas:
1. Mass
2. Prayer
3. Confession
4. Community Service
We’d love to hear about items that nurture the faith life of parents, families, or children.
If you have an item to recommend, please send a brief description of the product, along with the ways you have used it and how it has helped your family (again—brief!) to me by email.
I will forward your responses to Lori Hadacek, the writer working on this project, and she will be in touch with any further questions.
Thanks so much for your help!

I’d like to blame someone else for my failures, and that would be easy enough to do. At the church closest to my house, Confession is only available... READ MORE

My almost-seventeen year old Eric had his first meeting for the second year of his Confirmation program on Sunday night. As we parents reviewed Safe Environment policies with the Youth Minister, the teens met to discuss the process of choosing a Confirmation name. They will be confirmed in January, so the discernment process begins now as they consider their potential patrons.
Driving home with... READ MORE

Two children, actual conversation on the way to Confession:
She: (whining) How come I always get the middle seat?
He: (triumphantly) Ha!
She: Mo-om! No fair, he always gets his way.
He: Don’t be such a baby, you always get your way, and besides, my legs are longer.
She: So?
Et cetera. (You know the tone in which all this was delivered.)
Same children, actual conversation immediately after Confession:... READ MORE
