Must We Bare Our Soles?

Says You: are people allowed to wear shoes in your house?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/30582560@N08/3766003631/

Do people wear shoes in your house?

In many countries it’s unheard of to wear shoes in the house.

Hygiene-wise it makes perfect sense—do you know where those shoes have been?

Nevertheless, compulsory shoe removal strikes against my sensibilities.

  • I didn’t grow up that way.
  • I lived for awhile with a Venezuelan roommate who had a cultural horror of bare feet. One just didn’t take one’s shoes off... READ MORE

My View

which explains a lot

I thought I would share this picture with you. This is what 34 weeks looks like, when you’re trying to get on shoes and socks and head out at the end of the day. I got about half-way through before I just couldn’t breathe anymore and had to stand up.

When I looked down at my feet, after I “put on my socks” I laughed until I cried. This is how we roll, for the time being.

Happy Monday to you too!

The Joys of Impractical Shoes

How I know he loves me

On our anniversary yesterday, Dan took me out shopping. He “owed” me some birthday presents from last month (he did not), he said and figured we might as well pick some things out together.

I guess I thrill easily, because my man’s voluntary company on a shopping excursion made me giddy.

And when I picked out these totally impractical shoes, ones I am quite sure will be the cause of my demise when I turn over my ankle in them a thousand different times a thousand different ways, and he said only, “Sure, if you like them,” I knew he loved me.

No wonder I married this man!

Shopping, Cleaning, Sick Babies

and the greatest of these is...

This evening I feel like the working girl who has been away from the house all day and is just now walking in the door—hello, honey, I’m home!

I have been out of pocket today for a variety of reasons, and I’m enjoying catching up with all my good buddies over here. The music looks great, I’m totally going to make that cake-in-a-mug this weekend (for the boys of course!), and Lisa, those slippers look... READ MORE

Bargain Shopping at Amazon

everybody loves a bargain

The only thing that could make online shopping nicer is finding a real bargain online. I don’t mean a pretend bargain, I mean a real deal—as in 70% off original price.

For those of you who start your Christmas shopping in November, I have posted some handy links to Amazon bargain pages.

The links take you to pages, sorted by category, of items for sale at 70% off their original prices. And when you... READ MORE

It’s All About the Boots

expanding our political conversations

Am I the only person who is not shocked that Sarah Palin’s wardrobe in recent months has come with a big fat price tag?

Is it absolutely obnoxious that any kind of clothing costs thousands of dollars? Of course it is. But we all know that designer clothing does.

No one can seriously think that it would be appropriate for Governor Palin to wear duds off the rack from her local Target. And no one can... READ MORE

Found: The Perfect Shoe

Rachel Raves: where Rachel shares her fashion finds

I’d like to give a brief shout-out to the much-appreciated birthday gift my husband got me this year – a pair of these amazing shoes: Chacos sandals!

I know, I know. Can shoes really be that amazing? Yes, they CAN.

I love these shoes for a variety of reasons, but since I’m guessing a good number of you may already have a glazed over look from these first few sentences, I’ll keep this brief.

Here goes:... READ MORE
