Ending Human Trafficking

Praying through the intercession of Saint Josephine Bakhita

Today, as we commemorate National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, it’s fitting to pause and reflect on the fact that an estimated 2.5 million people are currently being held in forced labor around our world.  This includes well over a million children, being victimized by a crime many of us think ended years ago.

Saint Josephine Bakhita has been proposed as the Patron Saint against Human Trafficking. ... READ MORE

MLK, Patriot

Danielle pays fitting tribute to one of the greatest speeches in our history below.

I think you might additionally enjoy this talk Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) gave at an historically black church’s prayer breakfast over the weekend.

It’s about King’s “Letter from a Birmingham Jail.”

Eyewitnesses report there were cries of “Preach it!” from the audience.

Not too shabby for a staid “policy wonk!”... READ MORE

Social Justice & Health Care Reform

the bishops of Kansas City speak out
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=13788

The bishops of Kansas City have released a joint pastoral statement on health care reform.

Not just the life issues.

Not just the “right” to health care. (I’m using the scare quotes only because we need to be precise about what that right entails and what duties accompany it.)

They have some strong criticisms of the bills currently on the table.

But they are not on the side of those who think no reform is necessary.

See if you agree with me that this is the most thorough explanation of our Catholic duties and obligations as we wrestle with needed reform.

Signs of Life

diversity written right into our movement

Striking at this year’s March for Life was the prevalence of signs emphasizing healing and forgiveness.

That’s always been a big part of the March, but the signs were everywhere this year.

“Healing after abortion” signs, with a number for Project Rachel.

The women of Silent No More with their “I regret my abortion” placards.

An astonishing number of people who march for life are folks who regret their... READ MORE
