Reflection, Redirection

a nice little reset

Our summer is going so great—lots of fun and action and activity.

But there is also lots of fatigue. Summertime, while wonderful, can also be exhausting.

This song was an effective “reset” for me this afternoon when I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the noise and speed of my day. I hope it helps you too, if you are in need of a deep cleansing breath.

Feel Like Crying?

This might just do the trick

Tim Dunn’s mom sent me an email with a link to this video. Here is what she told me about it:

“This is my son who works in campus ministry at Xavier University. He wrote this song for his twin brother’s wedding.  It is a reflection of what happens when family relationships are valued and cultivated in our daily lives.”

I think you’ll agree he has reason to be proud of her big boys.

Eleventh Day of Christmas

art & song for all twelve days

As Lately We Watched

As lately we watch’d o’er our fields thro’ the night,
A star there was seen of such glorious light.
All thro’ the night, angels did sing
Carols so sweet of the birth of a King.

A King of such beauty was ne’er before seen,
And Mary His mother so like a queen.
Blessed be the hour, welcome the morn,
For Christ our dear Saviour on earth now is born.

His throne is a manger, His court... READ MORE

Tenth Day of Christmas

art & song for all twelve days

Lo, How A Rose

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming, as men of old have sung.
It came, a floweret bright, amid the cold of winter,
When half spent was the night.

Isaiah ’twas foretold it, the Rose I have in mind;
With Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind.
To show God’s love aright, she bore to men a Savior,
When half spent was the night.

The shepherds... READ MORE

I Am So Happy on Christmas Eve!

Merry Christmas, everyone!
Leo Cartwright

Do you know this sweet Norwegian carol? Listen to the melody here if not.

Er Saa Glad Hyer Julekveld

I am so glad each Christmas Eve,
The night of Jesus’ birth!
Then like the sun the Star shone forth,
And angels sang on earth.

The little Child in Bethlehem,
He was a King indeed!
For He came down from heaven above
To help a world in need.

He dwells again in heaven’s realm,
The Son of God today;
And... READ MORE

Advent Music Meditation

Veni Veni Emmanuel!

Just a few minutes of beauty for your day:

Susan Boyle Sings Wild Horses

We’ve talked about Susan Boyle here before. But have you heard her new single, Wild Horses?

I am thrilled that she chose to do this particular song because I have always recognized the potential for beauty in the the Rolling Stones version, and yet it never quite did it for me. This does, though. Beautiful stuff.

HT: Brian Saint-Paul

A Moving Tribute

Give Chikin A Chance

If you love Chick-fil-A as much as we do, you will be feeling the love on this song. Thanks, Melanie!

Simply Divine

Two resources to enjoy for Divine Mercy Sunday

As we prepare to celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday tomorrow, I wanted to share two beautiful resources with you that might help you to better understand and appreciate the day.

The first is this simply wonderful video of the Divine Mercy Chaplet in song.  It was produced by Trish Short and just such a lovely rendition of this special prayer.

Also this week, I wanted to point you to episode #3 of the... READ MORE
