Are You Ready for Some Football?

It has begun. The NFL pre-season that is. Does your family watch?
Have you been following the Favre fiasco?
Dan and I actually got into a heated discussion about Brett Favre’s retirement and comeback the other night. I find as we grow older, we grow less and less choosy about the subject matter of our fiercest “discussions.” Emotionalism that was once reserved for discipline differences and finances... READ MORE
Sports On Sunday
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Family on Tuesday, September 09, 2008
Remember the story of Eric Liddell, the Olympic runner of Chariots of Fire fame? He once refused to run an Olympic race he was favored to win because it was scheduled on a Sunday. The King of England begged him to run, yet he refused to violate the Sabbath.
Our family’s been spared any Sunday sports obligations so far, but as our kids grow, the prospect of Sunday games looms in both CYO and community... READ MORE
So I’m a Soccer Mom
Posted by Danielle Bean in Family on Friday, September 12, 2008
We don’t usually “do” soccer around here. And I have been happy with that. Quite frankly, baseball, basketball, tennis, riding, and swimming keep me busy enough throughout the rest of the year and I am usually content to take the fall season off.
This year, though, we are playing soccer.
Well, some of us are. Others of us are sitting on a damp bench in a cold rain nursing a cup of ginger tea and... READ MORE
Fuzion Scooter Giveaway
Posted by Danielle Bean in Reviews on Friday, September 19, 2008
When Fuzion asked if my kids would like to try out one of their new Electron scooters, I was pretty sure they’d be game. And when they asked if Faith & Family Live! readers would like a chance to win one for themselves, I was pretty sure you’d be game too.
I’d like to tell you the Fuzion Scooter was a cinch to put together, but I can’t be sure. It took my husband less than 30 minutes, but he’s a... READ MORE
Play Ball!

For the most part, I am a victim of second-hand sports around here.
I get exposed to the latest sports news as a matter of course because I happen to be in the adjoining room while ESPN covers the good stuff—like that soap opera for men that’s been taking place in Oakland the past couple of days.
I always do notice when the big sports news happens. Like playoffs. And that’s what begins for baseball... READ MORE
Tending Toddlers

This weekend at the Notre Dame football game, I took a stroll down memory lane.
In attendance with our family at the game were my sister Erin, her husband David, and my two nephews Evan (4) and Tyler (2). Erin’s boys are angels, practically perfect in every way! In addition, they are “all boy” like mine were - which translates into constant busyness and lots of physicality.
I’ve forgotten the... READ MORE
Eye of the Beholder

Last night, I was rushing out the door last minute to buy diapers before bedtime when I noticed Dan looking me over.
“What? Am I a mess?” I asked, running my fingers through my hair.
“No,” he grinned. “You look awesome.”
I followed his smiling eyes.
Oh.
I was wearing his sweatshirt.
Baseball Update
Posted by Danielle Bean in Just me on Sunday, October 19, 2008
This is becoming an October tradition. The kids are gathered in the living room tonight with blankets and pillows to watch the Red Sox vs. the Rays.
As they drop off, one by one, we’ll carry them to their beds. Only the oldest ones will make it through all nine innings (or more).
Meanwhile, Dan is in charge of the remote and I am in charge of snacks.
Are you watching tonight? Now that we got all those other silly teams out of the way, who are you rooting for now?
Real Life Hero

Apparently, my husband doesn’t think I cry enough.
How else to explain the fact that he suggested I watch this story about Louis Mulkey, the South Carolina basketball coach and firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty a little over a year ago?
The amazing story of his dedication to his team and their subsequent dedication to his memory is truly moving. Grab some Kleenex and see for yourself.
