Does Direct Mail Reach You?

Do you respond to letters & mailings from your favorite non-profits?

They arrive almost every day—laminated holy cards, finger rosaries, medals, and return address labels—each bearing lovely, holy images. I dutifully pull them from the mailbox, carry them to my desk, and place them in a stack. It feels wrong to throw them away, these lovely sacramentals, and yet I never asked for them and can’t seem to stop them from coming my way.

Along with the Marian bookmark or... READ MORE

Panera - Pay What You Can

Will this experiment work?

I LOVE my local Panera Bread.  Along with its strong coffee and free Internet connection, our cafe offers a great spot for me to have meetings or enjoy an occasional and affordable lunch with girlfriends.

Now Panera CEO Ron Shaich wants to do more than just provide great food.  He wants to “make a difference in the world”.  Shaich and Panera recently opened their first non-profit restaurant in St. Louis... READ MORE

Help Keep These Sisters Cool

Daughters of St. Paul need a new air conditioner!
I had the chance to meet some of these totally cool sisters in person this week, and can vouch for the fact that they are every bit as nice in person as they seem on this video!  But they have a problem - they need a new air conditioning unit for their bookstore and convent!  If you can help them by sending a donation of any size, please send your donation to the Daughters of St. Paul at 3908 Sepulveda Blvd, Culver City, CA 90230.  The work they do to help spread the Gospel message in Southern California is priceless!

The Hobo's Saint

St. Elizabeth of Hungary provides a wonderful role model for moms.

Every day, I derive so much inspiration from reading about the lives of the saints who have gone before us.  During the month of November, you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed—as I am—by pleas for help and charity.  It seems that in these months leading up to the holidays, we receive so many requests for donations.  My parish, our school, and our local Catholic Charities agency have all announced... The Widow's Mite

Teaching our children to give!

For me, the focus of this week’s gospel message (Mark 12:38-44) is “Be a giver!”  In this week’s Gospel Message for Children video, we share a few ideas on encouraging our kids to give of themselves - spiritually, socially, and in their relationships.  We also share an idea for giving during the Year for Priests.  How do you encourage your children to be stewards of their time, talent and treasures?

Catholic Climate Covenant

Resources to help you learn the Church's teachings on Earth Day

Today the great gift of God’s Creation is exposed to serious dangers and lifestyles which can degrade it. Environmental pollution is making particularly unsustainable the lives of the poor of the world … we must pledge ourselves to take care of creation and to share its resources in solidarity.  — Pope Benedict XVI

Following up on Rachel’s wonderful post from earlier today, I wanted to share the following... READ MORE
