Cinnamon Bun Joy

The Pioneer Woman has hers. Many other people have theirs. All get rave reviews from various quarters. And I have a recipe too. I didn’t, like, INVENT it. But I tweaked it to (what I consider to be) perfection, so I thought I’d share.
Cinnamon rolls. Yum! It’s Easter, isn’t it? The season of rejoicing is a great time to make these babies.
I like to make them for Sunday breakfast, because I can do... READ MORE

A friend sent along this email, one of those uber-forwarded gems, and I loved it. Are you from this generation? What else do you remember from this grand era?
To all the kids who survived the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked +/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate... READ MORE
Special Crispy Treats

I know they’re not everyone’s thing, but I love rice crispy treats. Yes, they’re basically just cereal-studded pieces of chewy sugar, but they are *delicious* cereal-studded balls of chewy sugar. Also, as long as you work fast and you’re not picky about letting them cool completely, you can be eating them less than fifteen minutes after you decide to make them.
And if there are children out there... READ MORE
Sugar High!

Hypothetically speaking, it is late Friday afternoon and the ice-cream in the freezer is calling my name.
Hypothetically speaking, I tell the ice-cream that I hear it loud and clear. I serve myself a moderate(ish) helping and enjoy every last smidge of vanilla and peanut butter and denali fudge.
Hypothetically speaking, I feel pretty good—for about ten minutes. That’s when I sense a sudden shift in... READ MORE
Power to the Peep

Here is an interesting look at how they make those wacky, loveable treats that are Marshmallow Peeps.
I’m curious to see how people feel about peeps. I’m one of those who can take them or leave them. They aren’t my first choice, but I’ll never say no to a bite here and there, especially once I’m in my sugar-induced eating frenzy (the one that lasts just long enough to remind me what a bad idea it is to ingest so much sugar).
Does anyone out there really love peeps, or all we all simply tolerating them?
Sugar, hi!

Alert reader Kerry recently sent me this interesting study that dispels several common myths that surround the holidays.
At the top of the list, and of most interest to me, is a look at whether or not sugar gets kids revved up. According to the study, this notion is not backed up by science—it’s in the parents’ heads!
”[The researcher] pointed to a study that told parents their kid was slurping a sugar-loaded beverage, when the drink instead was essentially water. The parents reported the child going bonkers when objective observers thought otherwise, she said.”
So there you have it! You are now free to go offer your kids that tray of triple-decker fudge and then send them off to bed. (Let me know how that goes.)
Mindless Eating

Confession: Over the past several days, I’ve eaten a lot—a lot—of Maryjane candies.
I don’t even like Maryjane candies.
My stupidity reminds me of Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think, a fascinating book I read and reviewed a couple of years ago.
The author asserts that when it comes to eating choices, we really are creatures of convenience. Making healthy eating easier and making unhealthy... READ MORE
