Bishops Bet on Ball

Super Bowl fun!

On Rachel’s topics of football and food, here’s a fun story I read today:

The bishops of the dioceses of Pittsburgh and Green Bay have made a friendly bet on Sunday’s Super Bowl Game. You can read the whole story here, but the gist of it is that bishops bet on the game, and charities will benefit. Who doesn’t love a little friendly inter-diocesan competition?

Not being a football fan, I don’t care... READ MORE

In Case You Missed It

Since Rachel’s talking about Super Bowl ads today, here’s a look at the “offensive” and “demeaning” pro-life commercial starring Tim Tebow and his mom. Kind of makes you wonder what all the fury was about, doesn’t it?

Super Bowl Ads

How did they rank?

It was the Tim Tebow ad that got most of the pre-game attention, but I’m curious to see how you felt about the rest of the ads, now that the big game is over.

To me, they seemed a little more tame (by comparison). Not nearly as many ads featured scantily-clad women, and only one ad really seemed to try and push the limits in that regard. In fact, most of the commercials that featured any kind of “skin”... READ MORE

Faith Bowl III

Athletes discuss the challenges of living a faith filled life

If you need a reprieve from the pre-super bowl hype tomorrow, you may want to check out Faith Bowl III being presented over at CatholicTV.com on Sunday.  Here’s some information from the CatholicTV website:

Faith Bowl is a round-table discussion by sports celebrities about the challenges of living the Catholic faith amidst the glitz and glamour of professional sports. This is the third year that Family... READ MORE

To Me, It's Not So Super

How do you feel about the all-American sport?

When I was at the grocery store on Monday, there were noticeably higher-than-usual amounts of things like soda and queso dip on sale. It puzzled me at first, but then I remembered that we were kicking off the week of preparation for the big game. The Super Bowl. The most-watched football game of the year.

(Probably. What do I know about it?)

Danielle invited you to post about the food you’re making... READ MORE

Now That's a Pro-Life Ad

NFL Players weigh in on abortion

At NCRegister.com I’ve been blogging a bit about feminists’ varying reactions to the upcoming pro-life Super Bowl ad featuring football star Tim Tebow. In my research, I was intrigued to come across this pro-life video featuring NFL players from 1989.

With all the furor over the subtle, tame Tebow ad, can you imagine the uproar if they dared to produce something like this today?

What Are You Making for the Super Bowl?

No, shush! Don’t tell me now! Blog your favorite Big Game recipes (or post on Facebook or F&F Connect or be ready to share in the comments) and then check in here for the Mr. Linky post to share your stuff tomorrow afternoon.

Got it? Good. See you there!

Super Bowl Winner

In our Super Bowl Picks contest, many guesses were close, but no one came as close to predicting the score as Susie did—only off by one point! Pretty impressive!

Go Steelers!
Steelers 27-24

Susie wins a year’s subscription to Faith & Family Magazine and a $25 Amazon gift card. But really, we’re all winners with the Steelers as Super Bowl champions, don’t you think?

The Cookies Are Ready

Are you?

What are you and your family doing this afternoon?

Will you be watching the Super Bowl?
