True Confessions: Distracted Driving

Are you a distracted driver?

This week’s latest Pew study on Adults and Distracted Driving has me contemplating how many times I place my own life and the lives of my loved ones at risk when I drive in a distracted fashion.

The study reported that a shocking 47% of adult drivers admit to either sending or reading a text message while driving.  Compared to the 34% of teens (16-17 year olds) who ‘fess up about this “no no”, we’re... READ MORE

Will Work for Corned Beef and Cabbage

My guys have been busy the past few days!

In the week leading up to St. Patrick’s day, the men of the Hendey family have been busy.  You see, my teenage sons specialize in playing traditional Irish music, so their services have been in demand lately.

This past weekend, they played for a local fun run to raise funds for MS Research.  Later, they entertained a crowd of close to 500 people at our Knights of Columbus’ annual St. Patrick’s Day... READ MORE

Saying Farewell

Our Church traditions and rites bring peace and healing during difficult times.

Last week, our parish and school community were hit hard by the sudden loss of two of our members to untimely deaths.  So this week, we will be gathering twice within three days as a community to celebrate Masses of Christian Burial.

Yesterday was the first of the two funerals, to celebrate the life of a seventeen year old who had been suffering protracted illness and injury for the past year. Russell’s... READ MORE

What the research shows

A new study published in the journal Pediatrics concludes that “teenagers who watch a lot of television programs that contain sexual content are more than twice as likely to be involved in a pregnancy,” according to a report in today’s Los Angeles Times.

I could go on and cite further data and research numbers, but it really all just leaves me thinking, um, duh.

Brotherly Love?

Looks like we need to have a little chat about oral hygiene!

When I went into my sons’ bathroom this week to clean it, I was greeted by this note which I found perched between their two sinks.

Written in Adam’s most menacing handwriting, it warns his big brother to “STOP STEALING MY TOOTHBRUSH!!!”  I love the “all caps” emphasis for added effect.

My first thought when I saw the note was, “Gross!”  My second thought was of the lovely Danielle Bean, who manages... READ MORE
