Pro-Life TV Show Wins Emmy Award

(Video is a clip of Facing Life Head On trailer)

I was excited to learn this week that Facing Life Head On, a weekly pro-life television show, was awarded a regional Emmy in the category of Interview and Discussion.

The show, which is a project of the Life Issues Institute, won the award on the strength of an episode in which Mattes interviewed Missy Davert, a woman who is 2 feet 11 inches tall and... READ MORE

Lost without LOST?

Missing it, or happy it's finally over?

This article at CNN caught my headline - an update on the current activities of my favorite LOST characters.  I have to admit for the past several years, I was a passionate LOST fan.  I watched the show with Greg each week, formulated my own personal theories (most of which were wrong) and enjoyed a few great LOST podcasts each week while doing housework.

And then it ended.

For about two weeks,... READ MORE

New Media Tool for Catholic Parents

Culture Gauge helps parents navigate popular culture

As a parent of growing kids, I find that navigating popular culture is a never-ending and exhausting task. What is okay to let the kids watch, see, and listen to? What kinds of television, music, movies, and video games are being marketed to children today? It can be challenging to keep up.

Finding the answers is never easy, but I am convinced that protecting our kids from negative influences and... READ MORE

My Cup Runneth Over

(and over and over and over)

Do you recognize this ball? Is it showing up constantly on your television these days? Around here, we have been spending hours and hours watching this ball move from one side of our TV screen to the other.

I know there are plenty of hardcore fans out there—are you one of them? If your household is in the throes of World Cup Soccer and you need a public place to comment, proceed!

As for me, here’s what I have to say: those horns are starting to make me feel like I have a bee stuck between my ears. I’m trying, but I just can’t learn to love those things.

Will You "Give Back"?

Popular television show raises funds

Chances are if the television set in your home is turned on tonight, you might be joining the millions of Americans who will be tuned into American Idol’s “Idol Gives Back” special.  Previous versions of the show have combined to raise over $140 million for charity, but Pro-Life groups and individuals concerned with the sanctity of life have begun to broadcast the information that some of these funds... Mad for Mad Men Style

Fashion Friday vol. 13

Hello girls!

Are any of you fans of the AMC show Mad Men? Though I’m not a devotee myself, my eyes light up every time I spot pictures from the series somewhere. What I wouldn’t give to get my hands on some of those outfits!

What's your take?

I was waiting for one of my fellow bloggers to post this question, but no one has yet so I’ll just ask these simple questions - What do you think about Kate Gosselin going on Dancing with the Stars?  Will you watch?  Would you do it if you had the chance to be on the show?

A Gift for Oprah

what the Dominicans taught

In a follow-up to the Dominican nuns highlighted by Oprah, the sisters talk about how they gave Oprah a rosary after the show.

Oprah Winfrey was surprised after her recent show featuring the Dominican Sisters of Mary when the sisters in the studio said they had a present for her. “No one ever gives me a present,” the television star said. Then, as Sr. Teresa Benedicta related in a talk before a packed... READ MORE
