Looking for a way to keep little hands busy while the big turkey cooks?
We made these pictured turkey companions at a recent birthday party. They were not too demanding, but still complicated enough to be interesting for the early elementary crowd. We cut the colored parts from craft foam, but construction paper would work fine, as well.

I read with great interest the comments in Danielle’s post about brining a turkey (and I’ll just admit right here I have no idea what that’s all about). But I am doing all the research I can because for the first time ever, Paul and I are responsible for the bird at the Swenson Family Feast.

I’m making myself a little crazy here these pre-Thanksgiving days. Because I think I want to brine our Thanksgiving turkey this year. And then I think I don’t. And then I think yes, I totally do.

Talking Turkey

Okay. So I just used the Butterball turkey calculator and now I am in a panic.
Apparently, to feed 5 adults and 17 children this year (What? That’s not what your guest list looks like?), I will need a 27 pound turkey.
Yikes!
I am thinking two turkeys are my best bet ... a cute little 10-pounder alongside a respectable 17-pounder.
Sound good?
How much turkey are you planning to roast next week?
