Happy Valentine's Day!

Can’t let the day go by without wishing you all a nice Valentine’s Day, Downton Abbey style.

(Though wasn’t this week’s episode a bit much?)

Find some other D. A. cards here.

You Are Loved

don't you forget it!

When Paul and I were first newlyweds, I worked at the local newspaper. On Valentine’s Day, employees got the special perk of getting a free classified ad to pronounce our deepest emotions to our loved ones.

When it came time for me to fill out my little slot, as I reflected on everything I was feeling and thinking on my first married Valentine’s Day, I was overwhelmed. I couldn’t decide what to say.... READ MORE

Does your family have any traditions? How can families... READ MORE

Yummy Cookbook

a sweet treat

Lisa’s post on her new fave kitchen appliance prompted me to write about my favorite book to go with that—Ben and Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream and Dessert Book.

I bought this for Paul last Christmas when I got him the ice-cream maker Lisa is so excited about. The whole family loves it! If you’re looking for delcious, easy recipes for an ice-cream maker, I recommend this book. I think it would make a nice Valentine’s gift for the sweet lover in your life.

On that note, what are you giving your beloved for Valentine’s Day this year? I’d love to hear some ideas.

Showing Our Love

How Will You Be Celebrating Valentine's Day?

Is it too early to talk about Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day is a funny day (and I don’t mean ha, ha).

I have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day: when I am are dating someone I love it, when I am single I hate it.

Sometimes I think it is just another way the flower and card industry make a buck.

But, I do love the way my parents show their love on Valentine’s Day.

I remember as a kid,... READ MORE

Valentine's Craft

a sweet little idea

Here is a clever idea if you want to send something other than a cartoon-character store-bought Valentine this year—a handmade flower Valentine.

I made a batch of these this afternoon using a larger heart (because I had larger lollipops). They turned out very cute, and I had on-hand everything I needed to make the craft.

Of course, the older boys are totally doing sports-themed Valentines picked up at Target. But the toddler will be delivering these to a few of his close, personal friends. Very sweet indeed.

I Believe in Love

and I really enjoy romance too

I love Valentine’s Day!

Ever since our first married Valentine’s Day (which marked the one-year anniversary of Paul asking me to marry him) I have looked forward to this day of romantic celebration. To me, it lingers on the calendar as a burst of warmth on an otherwise cold landscape. Christmas is over, January feels bleak, what’s that on the horizon? It’s Valentine’s Day!

This is not to say that... READ MORE

Valentine Help

what do you want for valentine's day?

Will you help me?

I’ve been asked to do an interview about what Catholic women want for Valentine’s Day.

I don’t think I know.

So… what do we want for Valentine’s Day?
