On Fire for Jesus

I might not be called to minister to orphans in Uganda, but this video has me motivated to live out my own vocation to the fullest. Who can I be Jesus to today?
Please Pray With Us for All Priests
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Wednesday, June 22, 2011
In the comments on this recent post, StephC made the excellent suggestion that perhaps now would be a good time for us to pray as a community for all of our priests.
I am happy to get us started doing just that. I hope you will join us in praying a novena for priests here at Faith & Family Live. I will post daily reminders for the nine days of prayer. Together, let us pray a novena prayer for our... READ MORE
Scorned For Being "Stay-At-Home"?
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Family on Thursday, March 17, 2011
Note: look for comments past #50 on successive pages.
My book club discussed Alice von Hildebrand’s The Privilege of Being A Woman last night.
A number of interesting questions came up, with decidedly different approaches, in spite of everyone in the room being a practicing Catholic striving to be faithful to the Magisterium, and all but one of us a stay-at-home mom at least until our kids were school-aged.... READ MORE
Writing My Own Story
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Tuesday, October 19, 2010
I have several friends who like blogs, but don’t read ones written by other Catholic mothers.
“I can’t take the pressure,” they say. “Their lives look so perfect, and it makes me feel badly that mine’s not like that.”
Personally, I do read - and am inspired by - blogs by other Catholic moms. But I understand my friends’ point of view. It can be intimidating.
I’ve been part of the Internet community... READ MORE
A New Mother Flounders
Posted by AGroup in Faith on Thursday, September 02, 2010
Q: I am a new mom and, as much as I looked forward to motherhood, I must admit that I am floundering. I feel tired all the time, I hate my new body, and even though I love my new son, I find him very hard to appreciate most of the time—especially when he keeps me up all hours of the night.
I find myself resenting my husband (who honestly is very helpful and supportive) because he works a job outside... READ MORE
"Call Within a Call"
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Thursday, August 26, 2010
Today is the 100th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth, and the day is being widely celebrated.
On the radio this afternoon, I caught a snippet of Al Kresta’s segment on the topic. His guest talked about how Mother Teresa had been living happily as a nun until she felt the call to serve the poorest of the poor. It was Teresa’s “call within a call,” she said.
Since then I’ve been thinking about that... READ MORE
Should I Be a 'Working Mom'?
Posted by AGroup in Faith on Friday, April 23, 2010
Q: I am an at-home mom of 4 young children (none of them in school yet) and it’s terrible to admit, but I can’t help but feel sometimes that God means for me to do “more than this.”
I am an attorney and practiced successfully for several years before getting married and becoming a mom. My kids mean the world to me, but isn’t it possible that God doesn’t mean for me to be staying home with them like... READ MORE
A New Bishop For Los Angeles
Posted by Rebecca Teti in News on Wednesday, April 07, 2010
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has a new coadjutor bishop.
A coadjutor is sort of a co-bishop who automatically succeeds the current bishop upon his retirement.
This means that when Cardinal Roger Mahoney retires, Bishop Jose Gomez, born Mexican and naturalized American, will inherit the nation’s second largest diocese.
There have been all kinds of responses (mostly jubilant) to the news of this... READ MORE
To Save A Thousand Souls
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Monday, March 15, 2010
A few years ago, our parish was graced with one of the most dynamic priests I had ever met. Fr. Brett had such a contagious love for Jesus that just being around him made me want to be holy, to do better, to be better.
Fr. Brett didn’t stay long at our parish—he was soon offered a position at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary to help with priestly formation. While I was sad to see him go, I couldn’t think... READ MORE
