Love Among The Ruins

a rescue in Haiti

In the midst of all the devastating stories from Haiti, a rescue—and a story of faith, hope and love.

As We Forgive Our Debtors

Pope Benedict met with Susanna Maiolo after his weekly Audience this morning.

She is the young woman who assaulted him on Christmas Eve.

During their brief visit, she apologized and he forgave her.

A short statement indicates the Pope wanted the opportunity to show her forgiveness and “concern for her well-being.”

The news story additionally indicates that the Pope sent his secretary to visit Miss... READ MORE

Putting His Faith Where His Face Is

Tim Tebow evengelizes sports fans

I am not much of a Gator’s fan, but I must admit to being impressed with Tim Tebow.

The Florida Gator’s quarterback and Heisman trophy winner drew “John 3:16” in his eye blacking during the 2009 BCS Championship game and at last night’s last home game he wore the verse Hebrews 12:1-2, which reads, in part:

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Amen!

How do you answer the knock on your door?

Earlier this morning, I was going about my usual Saturday morning routines when I heard the dog suddenly go crazy with barking in the driveway. We live in a pretty secluded spot and don’t get many unexpected visitors here, so the sight of a large white SUV heading down the long gravel driveway got him pretty worked up.

By the time the car parked and three well-dressed gentlemen made their way up... READ MORE

Lessons from the Lake

I could be the only mother of eight with whom this woman ever has a personal conversation, I thought to myself.

“She has two out there on the raft,” I overheard a woman talking to her companions at the lake last evening. “And these three right here, plus the baby, and I’m not sure about that little guy on the slide over there ...”

Of course she was talking about me. And of course I hear this all the time.

When I heard her begin to count heads again, I turned toward her, smiled, and braced myself for the inevitable.... READ MORE
